Dear Colleagues
Welcome to the first issue of the SOVS newsletter of 2018 – I hope you enjoy the new format. From now on you will receive monthly information about what’s happening in the school so please send your stories about events, visitors, research, etc. to Kerryn for inclusion.
My congratulations to Drs Hannah Kersten and Phil Turnbull who were appointed as lecturers within the school (from a field of strong local and international candidates). Congratulations also to John McLennan on his permanent appointment and welcome to Zaria Burden who is joining us as a new Professional Teaching Fellow.
I am looking forward to the end of January when will we will have the first SOVS Academic writers’ retreat in West Auckland. Here the majority of researchers in the school will get to spend a couple of days focusing on writing: enjoying the opportunity for some uninterrupted time to work on a current project, and sharing knowledge about effective science communication.
