On Friday 7 September 2018, the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences hosted the 12th annual HealtheX Conference sponsored by the Auckland Medical Research Foundation (AMRF), Maurice and Phyllis Paykel Trust (MPPT), FMHS Postdoc Society, and FMHS PGSA – without whom this event would not have been possible.
With around $15,000 of prizes, and three AMRF travel awards, the day was an absolute success and a celebration of student research conducted at the Faculty. Congratulations to all our winners and those who will be representing FMHS at the University-wide Exposure competition.
We would like give a special mention to Luis Knight for receiving the best AMRF Best Poster Presentation Award for his poster titled “The Role of the Cystine/Glutamate Antiporter in Glutamate Metabolism in the Mouse Retina.” Luis is co-supervised by SOVS’ Dr Monica Acosta.
Also BOptom graduate Joyce Mathan who is now undertaking her PhD studies was awarded the Maurice and Phyllis Paykel Trust Best Elevator Pitch Presentation Award. The title of her pitch was “Keratoconus in Down syndrome: more common than anticipated!”
