February 11 was the International Day of Women and Girls in Science. Our very own Dr Tina Gao was one of FMHS’ female scientists to be profiled in a story on the University website recently to celebrate the challenges and success of women in the sciences.

Tina acknowledges that “Science is difficult and requires a broad skillset, so a good amount of self-awareness will help them to apply their strengths in the right places and find smart ways to compensate for their weaknesses”. She encourages anyone wishing to pursue science to know their strengths and weaknesses, and go for it, noting that “Science is for everyone. Don’t listen to the people who say ‘science is too hard for girls’!”
