Professional Teaching Fellow Jaymie Rogers is one of only two recipients in 2020 awarded the distinguished University of Auckland Senior Health Research Scholarship.

Jaymie has been working with SOVS since 2014 supervising students in the eye clinic and teaching specialist vision rehabilitation. The scholarship will support Jaymie to complete a doctorate investigating “Inequities in eyecare access, and the impact of providing optometry eye care services and vision rehabilitation to Māori and Pacific people in New Zealand”. This research will provide valuable insights into eye care access in New Zealand.

Jaymie’s supervisory team consists of newly appointed Associate Professor Jacqueline Ramke, who has an interest in population health; Associate Professor Matire Harwood, who is a GP and clinical researcher in Māori health; and SOVS senior lecturer Dr Joanna Black.

Jaymie says “I am delighted to receive this award. It’s a fantastic opportunity for me to pursue an area of optometry which I am passionate about”.

Congratulations Jaymie, we look forward to hearing about your research.
