Welcome to the School of Optometry and Vision Science (SOVS) blog.

At SOVS we train New Zealand’s next generation of optometrists, preparing them to provide clinical care of the highest standard using innovative teaching that is informed by our own world-class research. We place a high priority on conducting research which underpins both our teaching and clinical practice, and we train student optometrists in why and how to provide evidence-based care to patients. This blog is an opportunity to showcase and share some of the activities and achievements of our staff and students in both research and educational / clinical settings.

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank our many supporters in the profession and in the community at large – including the New Zealand Association of Optometrists, the Optometrists and Dispensing Opticians Board, honorary teaching fellows (optometrists who take final-year students on practicum placements), and the generous donors who support a whole range of activities across SOVS.

We hope you will find this blog of interest and welcome feedback at GSC-Optometry@auckland.ac.nz
