The school’s management team structure and roles have been refreshed over the last few months. Please see below the new roles, holders of the roles, and the main focus of each role:

  • Head of School – Dr Andrew Collins
    Work closely with professional and academic staff to ensure the smooth running of the school. The role’s primary purpose is to cultivate a dynamic collaborative environment that fosters excellence in research, service and leadership, teaching and learning across all discipline areas of the school.
  • Deputy Head – Dr Joanna Black
    Provide high-level support to the Head of School in academic leadership and management. The role also oversees external engagement as an executive member of the school. The Deputy Head is also the identified delegate of the Head of School during their absence.
  • Associate Head (Academic) – Bhav Solanki
    Provide strategic leadership regarding the school’s academic activities relating to teaching including to: oversee the quality of academic activities within the school; ensure the timely and effective administration of academic activities within the school; ensure the programme complies with all requirements of professional regulatory bodies; and serve as the liaison and communication conduit between the school and the university on matters relating to teaching and learning.
  • Associate Head (Clinic Teaching) – Dr Geraint Phillips
    Provide oversight of clinic teaching within the Eye Clinic and off-site clinical placements.
  • Associate Head (Student Affairs) – Melinda Calderwood
    Ensure representation of student interests and welfare within the programme, and support interprofessional learning and innovative teaching and learning activities.
  • Associate Head (Postgraduate) – Associate Professor Monica Acosta
    Provide strategic leadership regarding the school’s postgraduate activities including to: provide oversight of postgraduate activities within the school; support timely and effective delivery of postgraduate activities; and serve as the liaison and communication conduit between the school and the University.
  • Associate Head (Research) – Associate Professor Sam Schwarzkopf
    Work with the school’s management team, Research Services Team, and academic staff members to achieve the school’s strategic research priorities. Ensure that research is conducted in an ethical and inclusive, equitable environment and delivers high impact research outcomes.
  • Group Services Manager – Johanna Beattie
    Lead and manage administrative and professional services for the School. The GSM is a conduit for information across group services staff, other faculty support functions and central service divisions, and in collaboration with other managers to continually improve processes and services.
  • Group Services Team Leader – Naomi Twigden
    Supervise the professional staff team and support the provision of effective and efficient academic administration support. Provide input to the management team and support the school’s strategic objectives and operational needs.
