Senior Lecturer Dr Misha Vorobyev has been captivated by the vivid beauty of the natural world from his childhood in Russia. This interest has evolved into a distinguished career exploring how animals perceive and use colour to communicate. His research spans a wide range of topics from decoding the visual language of bees and frogs to investigating how colour influences human emotion. More recently, he’s turned his attention to the ocean, experimenting with coloured lighting on fishing nets to help reduce unintended catch and protect marine life.
