Dear Colleagues
Welcome to the fourth issue of the SOVS newsletter for 2018. As well as the usual mix of news and profiles, this issue sees the introduction of a “Funding Opportunities” section which will be regularly updated by our new Research Programme Coordinator, Chelvica Ariyanayagam.
Welcome to Kyle Kratochvila (all the way from Southampton in the UK) as our new timetabling coordinator. Another new face around the school (from next week, for the next three months or so) will be Professor Peter Bex, visiting us from Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts. Prof Bex will be working with Tina Gao, Lisa Hamm and myself on strabismus.
Congratulations to Andrew Collins and Tina Gao who will both be awarded their PhDs at the FMHS autumn Graduation ceremony to be held on Monday, 7 May.
This issue we bid farewell to Lily Chang who is moving to Sydney to join her husband and to take up a new position as Medical Affairs Advisor in the Research and Development team at Alcon Laboratories. Lily is a gifted scientist and highly collaborative member of staff who will be greatly missed. We wish her the very best of luck with the move.
All the best
Professor Steven Dakin
Head of School, Optometry and Vision Science
