On 13 September the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences hosted the 13th annual HealtheX conference. Sponsored by the Auckland Medical Research Foundation (AMRF), Maurice and Phyllis Paykel Trust (MPPT), FMHS Postdoc Society, FMHS-PGSA, and the Liggins Institute, this is a student-led conference which showcases oral presentations, poster presentations, and a 3-minute elevator pitch competition followed by prize giving and a networking event.
As Head of School Steven Dakin was invited to judge an oral presentation session.
Prizes of around $15,000 of were awarded plus three AMRF travel awards.
Special mention to SOVS student entries by Gaganashree Shivashankar, who presented the poster “Diabetic eye disease: Is hyperglycaemia the culprit?”, Rebecca Findlay, who presented the poster “Pass or Fail: Vision screening in the Welcome to School Study” and Jay South, who gave an elevator pitch presentation entitled “The SpecsOn monitor: An objective way of monitoring glasses wear in children”.
